Zoysia continues to increase in popularity for the Florida landscape. This session will explain the history of zoysia in the marketplace, its successes and downfalls, give you tips for proper management and share information about further developments of zoysiagrass in Florida.

About the Instructors:



Erin Wilder is from a seven-generation farming family in North Florida. After graduating from Florida State University, she returned to her family business to begin her turf career as Sales Representative and later Sod Production Manager. She is currently the Executive Director of Field Operations and External Affairs for Sod Solutions, Inc. - a turfgrass research, development and marketing company with over 250 licensed producers worldwide. Erin has worked in the turfgrass industry for over thirteen years traveling to sod farms, university and research facilities, and various natural and synthetic turf sites. Additionally, she speaks to organizations & associations providing educational seminars and working directly with turf professionals to educate others on the benefits and proper maintenance of turfgrass. Wilder is a Past President of the Florida Turfgrass Association, serves on the Turfgrass Producers International Membership Working Group and is actively involved in many organizations and charity projects. Erin is a Class VII graduate of the Wedgworth Leadership Institute for Agriculture and Natural Resources. She and her husband, Bedford, have one son and live in Tallahassee, FL.

Dr. K.E. Kenworthy is a Professor of Turfgrass Breeding and Genetics at the University of Florida, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, where he has held a faculty position since 2004 in the Agronomy Department. Dr. Kenworthy's Ph.D in Crop Science, Plant breeding and Genetics, is from Oklahoma State University, and his M.S. and B.S are from Texas Tech University in Crop Science and Agronomy respectively. Dr. Kenworthy's teaching program includes an undergraduate course in Genetics and a graduate course in Plant Breeding Techniques. His background is in germplasm collection and development of grasses, turfgrass management, and the characterization of phenotypic variation for many traits in warm-season turfgrass species. As the lead investigator in cultivar development at the University of Florida, he has developed a collaborative approach that integrates faculty across IFAS departments, and partners with Florida's sod industry.
